The festive season is the time when we enjoy coming together to celebrate with our family and friends. However, it is also the time when the rule book on healthy eating is thrown out! Here are a few tips to help you survive the silly season:
1. Now is not the time to try to lose weight (keep this as a New Year’s resolution) 🥳
2. If you are the host/hostess of the party, why not consider healthy options on to serve to your guests. Cheese, nuts, deli and deep fried meats are high in fat, but alternatives such as chicken (with the skin removed), salmon or tuna or home cooked rissoles are a great option to have on the plate. 🥦
3. Reduce your alcohol consumption during this time by diluting your beverage of choice with a soda, or choose a low calorie beer at your next function.
It is recommended that women consume no more than 2 standard drinks per day, and for men a maximum of 3. 🥂
4. Have you prepared your transport? If you are attending a Christmas party (and it’s not at your house), it is a good idea to ask a friend or family member to drop you off and pick you up, or why not organize a taxi or a group ride share? This means you can enjoy your festivities without worrying about your safety behind the wheel of your car. 🚗
