CERVICAL SCREENING

Regular cervical screening is one of the best protections against cervical cancer.

There are two (2) screening options available to women, and people with a cervix.

Your GP can help you decide what is the best two for you.

VAGINAL SWAB

The vaginal swab is quick and easy to do, but it may not be suitable for all people (your doctor will advise if this is not an option for you).

If you chose to do a self-test, you will be given a test kit by either your doctor or nurse with detailed instructions on what to do.

The results of the swab take 1 – 2 weeks to be returned to the practice.  You will be contacted by one of our team if you require follow-up.

CERVICAL SAMPLE (PREVIOUSLY CERIVICAL SMEAR)

If it is recommended that you have a Cervical Sample taken, rather than a vaginal swab, you will need to make an appointment with either your doctor, or a practice nurse.

The appointments take 15 minutes.

The results of the Cervical Sample will be returned to the practice in 1 – 2 weeks, and you will be contacted by one of our team if you require any further follow up.
